And we're off and running...

Hello All,

Well, the 2007-2008 school year has finally begun!  For those of you who don't know, I am still recruiting this year, however, I am also teaching Grade 12 English--woohoo!  It is truly an ideal situation.  I've got 6 amazing students and 12th grade definitely has the best stuff to teach.  So, I'm pretty thankful.  Baby #2 is about 2 or 3 weeks away, so that's pretty exciting, too.  Joe has auditions for "Little Women" this Saturday, so pretty soon that ball will start rolling as well.  Are we gonna be busy, or what?  We are loving it, though!

Vacation!

Hello all,

We just got back from vacation on Thursday!  We went down to Efes (Ephesus) and it was pretty amazing!  We stayed in a little town about five minutes from the ruins, so we were able to get out there early out of the heat of the day.  It was awesome to think that we were walking along the streets where Paul spent three years of his life... whoa.  It is also believed that John brought Mary to Ephesus to live after Jesus died.  There is a reconstructed first-century home set apart from the main part of the town where Mary supposedly lived.  It has been converted into a chapel and was impacting to visit, too.

The Aegean Sea was about ten minutes from our little hostel, so we spent some time relaxing there, too.  Jeremy loved the waves and the sand!  Another major plus for this pregnant lady was the air-conditioned room; I think I just about froze Joe out!  All in all, good times and good memories.

The Pregnancy Saga Continues...

Hello again,

How is it that one pregnancy can go without a single complication, not even a minor complication, and the next one is filled with CRAZINESS??  Before I gripe too much, I AM thankful that though this pregnancy has been much harder than the last, at least Daisy Moe is doing well and all complications thus far have been minor.

I have now been diagnosed with gestational diabetes...don't have any of the risk factors, but I've got it nonetheless.  Sigh.  Oh well.  It's not as bad as a I thought.  I went to visit a nutritionist today and figured out what exactly I'm supposed to eat for the next 3 months...protein, protein, protein.  NO sugar, sugar, sugar.   Sad day.  I also get to prick my finger and test my blood sugar everyday...maybe I'm weird, but it's actually kinda cool.

Right, so if you are reading this, you have a task before you:  go eat something with a ridiculous amount of sugar in it for me, ok?  Thanks!

A Narrative about the ER...

Hello dear friends...

Never fear, all is well, but I did get to visit the ER today.  Apparently, I have some kind of nasty stomach bug thing and as a result have become somewhat dehydrated.  Of course, the recent heat wave hasn't been very helpful in that regard, either.  Anyway, this is not a story to complain about my illness, but rather to tell you of a rather hilarious occurance while at the ER...

We had a scheduled visit with my ob/gyn anyway to check out how little Daisy Moe was doing and all (which, by the way, she is doing GREAT!), so while we were in, my doctor thought it would be good to run some tests to see what was up.  So, off we went to the ER to get an IV (we had already determined that I was dehydrated), but also get some blood work, etc. done.  Upon arriving at the ER, a nice, little nurse led us to one of the beds.  He went to go get the IV set up and almost immediately the electricity went off.  Suddenly, a big, burly doctor with a kind, but stern face poked his head in and started rattling off in Turkish.  When we said we did not speak Turkish, he replied with, "This is like a scary movie, no?"  Having never been to the ER, I was kind of already thinking along those terms as I passed by screaming children and moaning patients.  The loss of electricity just added to the effect.

Anyway, I started laughing.  Maybe you just had to be there, but I thought it was hilarious...

Thanks for listening!

Happenings...

Hello Friends,

Just thought I'd tell you a bit about what we've been up to lately.  My parents came in last Wednesday and are here till Saturday, so we've been livin' life up with them over this past week.  We've been a little touristy and just enjoyed hanging out with them and introducing them to our lives here in the Bul.  It's very different from Africa, ya know?

Congratulations to the Seniors!  We so enjoyed graduation last Thursday and are very proud of you guys!  The whole program was very nice and not too sappy, but sentimental all the same.  Good deal!

Hmm...what else?  Today my mom and I are going to the doctor to see how Daisy Moe is progressing while Joe and dad go watch Pirates 3.  Yeah...so I guess that's about it for the moment.

Have a great summer and let us know what YOU are up to periodically!
